Blackwood Valley

Keyword or Phrase

An enchanting region of historic townships set amid the natural grandeur of the south-west hinterland, this is a nirvana for adventurous foodies and wine lovers.

The glorious Blackwood Valley offers a perfect example of the wide variety of natural and man-made attractions on offer. Lush green pastures, towering forests, green valleys and the tranquil waters of the Blackwood River meandering through what is almost fairytale-lovely countryside. This picturesque region was settled in the 1800s and until recently was best known for its farming, timber and horticulture. Yet in the last 30 years Blackwood has seen over 50 top-class wineries come on-line. The most successful varieties to come out of the area are chardonnay, cabernet and shiraz. Try a bit of bushwalking or trekking along the beautiful namesake river, which is one of WA’s longest and most spectacular.

Nannup’s wildflowers burst into life each spring and the town is renowned for its tulips. Work up an appetite with an excursion into the forest then a stop at one of the cosy cafés or inviting restaurants to be found throughout the area.
